Man with chain saw charged with assault after lunging at people, OPP reports

BANCROFT – On Saturday the 20th of August 2011, the Bancroft OPP and Highlands East Fire Department responded to the report of a fire on Norwester Road in the Municipality of Highlands East.

The fire had been put out prior to police and fire department arrival.

After police arrived at the scene the adult male at the property proceeded to start a chain saw and cut a tree.

Three adult males from a neighbouring residence attended the location and spoke to the male with the chain saw. The male lunged at the males with the chain saw and as a result he was arrested and taken into police custody.

Kenneth Brine, 70, of the Municipality of Highlands East has been charged with mischief, assault with a weapon and resist arrest contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Brine was held for a bail hearing on Sunday the 21st of August where he was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Belleville court on the 15th of September 2011.

The three adults that had attended the residence, an 18 year old male of Bancroft and two 22 year old males from the Municipality of Hastings Highlands did not sustain any injuries.
