COE HILL – The first hunt of the new elk population is underway across the Bancroft district. There are 70 hunters with licences to take one of the elk that were re-introduced to the area a decade ago.  The hunt runs Sept. 19 through Sept 25, 2011. Ontario Natural Resources Press Release CAMPBELLFORD – A Toronto man was fined $4,100 for offences related to fishing in a closed season. Jerry Mata Reboja pleaded guilty and was fined $3,600 for catching and retaining smallmouth bass during the closed season. He pleaded guilty and was fined an additional $500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer. Ontario Provincial Police press release COE HILL – On Saturday the 10th of September 2011, the Bancroft OPP was dispatched to a break and enter on the Ridge Road in Wollaston Township. Sometime between the 05th and 10th of September 2011 a cottage and boathouse was forcibly entered. A generator and fishing equipment has been reported stolen.

COE HILL – A Hastings Harvest Festival is planned Sat., Aug. 27, 2011 in Coe Hill. The Coe Hill Farmer’s Market Bakery and Cafe presents the event in the Wollaston Community Centre, attached to the Coe Hill Public School, 2149 Highway 620. It’s on the same weekend as the  the annual Coe Hill Fair at the fairgrounds just up the road. The celebration of foods and music of the county runs 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Admission $3 for age 12 and older.  Children admitted no charge.

DENBIGH – A Welland man was fined $800 and had his hunting licence suspended for two years for offences under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. James Napper pleaded guilty to hunting deer with a shotgun during the muzzle loader only season, hunting without a licence, and failing to stop for a conservation officer. Ministry of Natural Resources press release BANCROFT – A Bancroft man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for failing to comply with a probation order issued under the Provincial Offences Act. Brian Vardy of Bancroft pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the conditions of a probation order. He also received an additional two-year probation order and must pay more than $6,000 in outstanding fees.
