Submitted by Bonnie Purdy COE HIL — Last year we held our 1st Annual Wollaston Firefighters Spring Event. We were able to raise just over $5,100 last year for the fire department, and would love to surpass that mark this year. We are having another Silent Auction, Dinner and Dance on April 21st at the Community Centre in Coe Hill. Happy hour starts at 5 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m. Please mark your calendars. Ontario Provincial Police press release BANCROFT – On Sat. Feb. 4, 2012, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Wollaston Township Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire on Township Road 620 in Wollaston Township. The house was vacant at the time of the fire. The Bancroft OPP and Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office were involved with the investigation. A 42 year old Peterborough, Ontario man has been arrested and charged in relation to the investigation. Wollaston fire department truck unsafe, sold for scrap

COE HILL – Wollaston Township firefighters have one less truck to use these days. Township council has sold a 30-year-old equipment van for scrap, said clerk-treasurer Christine FitzSimons.  It was declared unsafe. The fire department’s other three trucks have been “reconfigured” to to carry the gear that used to be carried in the van. There are no plans to replace the old van, FitzSimons said.  A bigger priority is replacing a pumper truck that’s about the same age.

COE HILL – Damage is minor after a fire at the back door of the FoodMart in Coe Hill was quickly extinguished Sun., June 12, 2011. Store staff discovered the flames about 11 a.m. and started putting water on before Wollaston Township firefighters arrived. The fire hall is about 100 metres away, just to the east along Wollaston Township Road 620. Fire Chief Sarah McIntee doesn’t consider the cause of the fire isn’t suspicious.  She didn’t speculate about a cause. Nobody was injured.

COE HILL – A Wollaston Township fire department “boot toll” raised just short of $1,000 on May 21, 2011, says fire chief Sarah McIntee. The fundraiser is run each Victoria Day weekend, to help buy equipment for the volunteer department based in Coe Hill, Ontario. The boot toll was set up in front of the Coe Hill fire hall, on Wollaston Township Road 620 in the middle of town.
