New Wollaston Township website goes live this week

COE HILL – Wollaston Township’s new website went live this week, after a few glitches delayed the Tuesday launch. The new website will be at www.wollastontownship.ca. The current township web address – www.township.wollaston.on.ca – will also direct you to the new on-line site. The new website includes local in formation about events, businesses and downloadable forms from the township office. The new website cost $2,000 to set up.  It was primarily funded with $1,500 from the Community Futures’ Eastern Ontario Development Program, funded by Ottawa, said township clerk Christine FitzSimons. Coe Hill handled day-long power outage with little fuss

COE HILL – Electricity was restored in Coe Hill about 8:20 p.m. Feb. 19, 2011, after a day without Hydro One service. Thousands of people in the the Bancroft and Barry’s Bay area were without power after winter winds ripped through eastern Ontario the night before. While power returned in Coe Hill, it was still out for 1,500 customers in the Gilmour area.  According to www.hydroone.com, service isn’t expected to return until 4 p.m. Sun., Feb. 20, 2011. COE HILL — Visitors to the Coe Hill fairgrounds July 31 and Aug. 1 were treated to a taste of the old West, during the second Wild West Weekend. Saturday looked to be the busier of the two days, with cars parked alongside old Highway 620 and a full parking area on site. Here’s a photo slide show from Saturday’s events. Enjoy.

Open house planned Saturday at Coe Hill community centre

COE HILL — The third annual Wollaston Township open house is set for Saturday, July 17. Hours are noon to 2 p.m., with a free barbecue if you’re hungry. And if you’re feeling lucky, there’s door prizes, too. Last year, there were 20 exhibits in the community gymnasium attached to the Coe Hill public school.  The  300 put on the grill were eaten by the crowd of 200 visitors Click here to view photos from the 2009 open house.

GUNTER — A structure fire caused $300,000 damage in Gunter April 3. Limerick Township firefighters were called at 5:20 p.m., said Fire Chief Jason Post. No injuries were reported, he said.

Daytime outdoor burning ban across Wollaston Township

COE HILL – As of April 1st, daytime burning restrictions are in force across northern Hastings County, including Wollaston Township. While some townships have imposed bans on all open burning in this spring’s dry weather, overnight fires are still allowed in Wollaston, Fire Chief Sarah McIntee says. Before lighting an outside fire in Wollaston, get a burn permit from the township office.  There’s no charge. The permit spells out the landowner’s responsibilities when lighting an outside fire.  It also keeps fire officials informed about where and when there may be outside fires, along with...
