Grant keeps Tamarack women’s program going in Bancroft

BANCROFT – Maggie’s Resource Centre of North Hastings received notification today that they had been successful in their grant application for funding under the Investing in Women’s Futures Program for the time period April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2013. This grant is for the Tamarack Program and will ensure that the programming will continue and can offer services to the local community and the women of North Hastings. Building Bancroft gets $270,000 tourism grant from Ottawa

Submitted by Barb Shaw The Bancroft region needs a committed source of tourism funding if it wants to compete with other areas of the province. In fiscal year 2009/2010 Building Bancroft was able to access approximately $270,000 in grant money through the Federal Government’s Community Adjustment Fund. This is a reasonable start in what could be multi-year funding to help support a significant economic generator for the region. Building Bancroft’s current application to the Provincial Government’s Rural Economic Development Program, if approved, will provide approximately $370,000 to continue this tourism initiative.

In keeping with the County’s Premier Ranked initiative that suggests communities animate public space, the Building Bancroft team is assisting the cultural community with the development of a market place around the former IGA building that will highlight our arts community and provide a showcase opportunity for the natural talents of our residents. Press release from Building Bancroft BANCROFT — A research survey completed last week by national polling firm Ipsos Reid has found that twice as many people in the Bancroft region support the Building Bancroft Project as oppose it. The telephone poll was conducted between March 31st and April 8th, and it shows that 65% of respondents who are aware of the Building Bancroft initiative support it, while 32% oppose it. BANCROFT — The Building Bancroft Tourism and Marketing Committee are making preparations for the second part of the Bancroft Region Tourism Conference. After the first session was held in February enthusiasm grew and a commitment was made to provide a forum to continue the dialogue.
