Bancroft OPP press release On Wednesday the 14th of April 2010 Officers from the Bancroft OPP responded to the report of a break and enter on Gunter Lane in the Township of Tudor and Cashel. Rebuilding of Hwy 62 expected to finish in November 2010

LIMERICK TWP – Work is gearing up again on a $13.2 million rebuilding of bumpy Highway 62 south from old Highway 620 to near Cleveland Road. Aecon Construction started work in October 2009 to rebuild 17.4 kilometres of the two-lane highway and replacing the Beaver Creek Bridge. Work is expected to cause traffic delays of up to five minutes weekdays, says the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. The work is expected to be done by Nov. 26, 2010. Bat-killing fungus now found in Hastings County

Last month, a  fungus that leads to mass deaths of bats was found in the Bancroft-Minden area. Now it’s been found in Hastings, Peterborough, Grey and Renfrew counties, and in Kirkland Lake, the Toronto Star reports. “White nose syndrome” was first found in Albany, N.Y. in 2006 and spread  has since spread to 11 U.S. states.   The fungus disturbs sleep patterns of bats, causing them to   awake too early from hibernation.  Without insets available to eat, the bats starve. Snowmobile trails are closed with the early spring, but the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs doesn’t want to forget the season past just yet. The organization is asking snowmobilers to take an online “preference and opinion survey.” Click here to see the survey. Results will ” help guide the development of snowmobiling in your area and across the province,” the survey front page says.  Complete the survey by May 1 and your name goes into a draw for prizes. COE HILL — Monday is  your chance to  speak up with ideas for summer events  Coe Hill, Limerick and Tudor/Cashel. Provincial community health grants are available to fund seasonal activities, says Maryann Mcconnell-Post of the recreation committee. Activities such as biking, box car races, mystery camps, basketball, soccer, yoga, theater classes, cooking classes are some of the ideas that might be kicked around during a brainstorming session March 29, she said. COE HILL — Federal, provincial and local governments are spending $128,490,735 on 64 infrastructure projects across Hastings County in 2009 and 2010. The Ontario government estimates the work will create about 1,100 jobs. Let’s see, after a little quick math . . .  that’s $116,809 for each job created, all costs in. Sure, there’s lots of construction underway to rebuild roads and arenas and such, but that’s a lot of borrowed money....
