Hastings County may not be seeking a county-wide contract for policing with the OPP, but that’s not stopping some northern municipalities from pursuing the idea, according to a story in the Belleville Intelligencer. Bancroft, Faraday, Carlow/Mayo, Wollaston, Hastings Highlands and Tudor-Cashel officials will soon meet with senior Ontario Provincial Police officials to talk about a joint contract to save money, instead of individual contracts, the story says.
UPDATE: As of 8 p.m, Hydro One’s website now shows power restored in the Bancroft-Barry’s Bay area, except for fewer than 50 customers east of Maynooth. NORTH HASTINGS County — Some power has been returned after a major electricity backout hit Northern Hastings County in the mid afternoon Sept. 25, 2010. Hydro One now says some of the nearly 9,000 customers affected have had power restored. There’s now an 8 p.m. target to have all power restored.
NORTH HASTINGS – As of 3 p.m. Sat., Sept. 25, 2010, Hydro One is reporting a major power outage that covers all of Horth Hastings County. The electricity delivery company’s web site reports 8,511 customers affected — but that’s just the number of people with hydro meters. The number of people affected is easily double that. The web site says power should be restored by 6 p.m., Sept. 25, 2010.
COE HILL — An Oshawa man, 35 was charged with impaired driving after he was stopped Fri., Aug. 27, 2010 at Lower Faraday and Rose Island roads in Wollaston Township. Bancroft OPP were running a reduce impaired driving everywhere — RIDE — checkpoint at the rural intersection just north of Coe Hill. BANCROFT — Police hit the jackpot when they pulled over a car in Bancroft on Wed., 25, 2010. The Bancroft driver, age 30, was found to be driving while his licence was suspended and without insurance, Bancroft OPP report. Then officers connected him to a break-in in Hastings Highlands. The man turned out to “be in possession of a large amount of stolen property,” police say. He was held for bail hearing on charges of break, enter and theft, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of an undertaking.
HASTINGS HIGHLANDS – Three people were hurt in a two-boat collision on Baptiste Lake Wed., Aug. 18, 2010. The operator of a Lund vessel, a 44-year-old man from Hastings Highlands, and a female passenger, 39, from Whitby, were taken to hospital in Bancroft for treatment after the evening incident, Bancroft provincial police report. The operator of a US Marine Power vessel, a 62-year-old man from Richmond Hill sustained injury. A passenger, 60, from from Woodbridge, wasn’t hurt. Police continue to investigate the collision.
LIMERICK Twp — A crossbow was stolen from a house along Highway 62 in Limerick Township, Bancroft OPP report. Police were called July 31, 2010. Also missing were three canvas lawn chairs. On Monday, Aug. 2, thieves were busy in Carlow-Mayo Township. Police were called to a garage break-in on Reber Road. Two Honda all-terrain vehicles, a generator and a trolling motor were taken. COE HILL – A Caledonia man was charged with impaired driving Sun., Aug. 1, 2010 on Beach Lane in Wollaston Township. Bancroft provincial police on patrol stopped a Ford pickup truck and administered a roadside blood-alcohol test to the driver. The 27 year old driver failed the test and was charged, Bancroft OPP reports.
COE HILL — There’s still time to grab a paint brush and spruce up your Coe Hill storefront. The entry deadline for a “Paint the Town” contest for Coe Hill, Maynooth and Bancroft has been extended to Sept. 30, after a June deadline was washed way by consistent rain, said Chris Drost, co-ordinator of the downtown revitalization project for the three business areas.
