TROUBLE WITH YOUTH MARMORA – On Saturday  evening (Jan. 9) a large group of youth were gathered on Matthew Street, Marmora. Some of the youth began to argue. A male punched another youth in the face, causing minor injuries. The male then left the scene on foot. The victim did not know the suspect, but was able to later identify him from a Facebook account. MARMORA COUPLE CHARGED MARMORA – After a lengthy investigation of elder abuse, the Central Hastings Crime Unit has charged a Marmora couple with theft. Police received reports in May, 2008 of elder abuse regarding financial matters. Yesterday (Jan. 6) police arrested Richard ELDRIDGE, 45 years old, and Krista NORMANDIN, 48 years old. They will appear later today (Jan. 7) for a bail hearing in Belleville court charged with theft by person holding power of attorney. MADOC — The operator of three area co-op stores and a V&S store has filed for protection from its creditors, but remains open for business and is conducting a liquidation sale. The Madoc Co-operative Association filed an application Dec. 2 under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, according to documents posted on the website of receiver Farber Financial Group. FESTIVE RIDE RESULTS During the Festive Ride season, which started November 27th, 2009 and ran through until Saturday, January 2nd, members of the Central Hastings detachment stopped almost 6,000 vehicles. One driver was charged with impaired driving (and an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension), four drivers registered a warn at the roadside (resulting in a 3 day driver’s licence suspension), and thirty-four drivers were charged for other traffic and liquor offences. MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION HAVELOCK-BELMONT-METHUEN TWP – On Tuesday December 29, 2009 at approximately 6:21 P.M. officers from Central Hastings OPP and Peterborough County OPP, members of Havelock Belmont Methuen Fire Department and paramedics from Peterborough County Ambulance responded to a two vehicle head on collision at Highway 7 and the 2nd Line of Belmont Twp. A 2002 Ford Focus driven by a 79 year old Marmora woman had collided with a 2007 Dodge Charger driven by a 31 year old woman also from Marmora. DOMESTIC IN VEHICLE MADOC – Police were called to a Madoc business on Sunday afternoon after a domestic disturbance erupted in a vehicle. While travelling to their Toronto residence a verbal argument lead to the driver being struck in the arm and the windshield being kicked and damaged. STOLEN VEHICLE ELDORADO – Nov. 3,  just after 4 a.m., a vehicle parked at a residence on Highway #62, Eldorado was stolen. The car was later located nearby in a corn field off of Ruperts Road. There was not a lot of damage to the vehicle, but a GPS was missing from inside. Members of the Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit were called in to assist, with negative results.
