Ontario Provincial Police press release BANCROFT– On Friday the 23rd of September 2011, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a theft on Brinklow Road in Limerick Township. COE HILL – The first hunt of the new elk population is underway across the Bancroft district. There are 70 hunters with licences to take one of the elk that were re-introduced to the area a decade ago.  The hunt runs Sept. 19 through Sept 25, 2011. The Ministry of Natural Resources says the intent was always to let the elk population grow to the point where it could be hunted, but one biologist told the CBC the herd’s growth rate of 20 per cent a year was a surprise.
