COE HILL – A stop sign but not a speed bump, is coming to Norman Lane in Coe Hill. After residents petitioned council April 26, 2011 for a stop sign and speed bump to slow traffic, Wollaston Township council went half-way on May 10, 2011. Council ordered the stop sign installed at Norman Lane and Highway 620.  The road superintendent didn’t recommend a temporary speed hump on the narrow road, and council followed his advice.

COE HILL – Work starts in two weeks on a $20,000 “village square” public meeting space in front of the post office. The controversial project will proceed, even though the township’s volunteer revitalization committee rejected the idea of mixing parking spaces with people gathered to talk on benches. At its May 10, 2011 meeting, Wollaston Township council voted 4-1 to proceed with the project in June. Source: OPP press releases STIRLING– Members of the Quinte Region Traffic Coalition (QRTC) gathered at the Stirling-Rawdon Police Service on May 12 to launch a distracted driving enforcement campaign set to run from May 16 – 23. Throughout the week long campaign, officers will be concentrating on a very common, but costly offence, driving while using a hand-held cell phone. Officers will have zero tolerance for those found talking on their cell phone while driving. This latest QRTC initiative coincides with Canada Road Safety Week.

BANCROFT – On the morning of Monday May 02nd 2011, Officers from the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to the report of a tractor trailer collision on Highway 28 east in the Town of Bancroft. The truck was travelling west bound on Highway 28 near Lakeview Road when it entered the north ditch and rolled onto its’ side. The 48 year old male driver of Burgessville, Ontario did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision. No charges have been laid.

COE HILL – New rules to control where and when signs may be posted along public roads are under consideration by Wollaston Township council. At the April 12, 2011 meeting, a proposed bylaw was on the agenda.  It was referred to the May  10 meeting for debate. COE HILL — Redesign of a new town square in Coe Hill to retain parking spots in front of the post office is up for public discussion tonight. In 2010, Wollaston Township council approved a $20,000 plan to replace informal parking along Township Road 620 with landscaping and benches, creating a public meeting area at the post office.
