It’s risky and dangerous to ride your snowmobile this weekend even though there’s snow on the ground,  say Ontario Provincial Police and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs The smart choice is not to ride a snowmobile anywhere this weekend, the organizations say in a press release. While there’s been considerable snowfall in some areas, the ground underneath is not yet frozen properly. BANCROFT – Watch for wildlife on the roads this time of year, local provincial police detachments advise. Here’s a press release from Bancroft OPP: Collisions with wild animals can result in serious vehicle damage, personal injury or even death.  There were over 140 vehicle/wildlife collisions on Bancroft area roads in 2009 and most of these collisions involved deer. The peak months were September, October, November and December.  Most of these collisions occurred between dusk and dawn. HAVELOCK-BELMONT-METHUEN Twp. — Two Toronto-area men were arrested when provincial police raided a 10,000 plant outdoor marijuana grow operation north of Havelock on Thurs., Sept. 9, 2010. OPP say a two-week investigation led them to a property along Peterborough County  Rd. 44 where pot plants were ready for harvest.  Police say they had a value of $10 million. Assault, drug charges laid Sunday at Havelock Jamboree

HAVELOCK — Police charged a Perth man with assault causing bodily harm on the grounds of the Havelock Country Jamboree. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010 at approximately 1:33 a.m.,  an 18 year old male went to the Peterborough County OPP Mobile Command Unit on the jamboree site.  He had an injury to his left arm and was treated by paramedics on site. Police out in force for Havelock Jamboree this weekend

HAVELOCK — Provincial police say they’ll be out in force Thurs., Aug. 19 through Sun., Aug. 22, 2010 as the 21st annual Havelock Country Country Jamboree takes place. Officers will be on foot and ATV patrol within the jamboree grounds, police warn. There will  also be extra marked and unmarked patrol vehicles in the village and surrounding area. Motorists travelling on Highway 7 should consider an alternate route or expect a noticeable slow down of traffic in the Havelock area due to the high volume of visitors to the jamboree.

HAVELOCK — Provincial police drug officers removed and destroyed 125 marijuana plants north of Havelock Wed., Aug. 11, 201o. The plants were in a swamp and had a “potential street value” of $125,000, Peterborough County OPP report.
