COE HILL – Work on a $274,000 roof over the outdoor rink in Coe Hill is about a month from completion. Township clerk-treasurer Christine FitzSimons says the project is progressing well. The township hopes to have the new pavilion roof open as soon as possible, once landscaping is done. New sporting equipment is planned for the covered area. COE HILL – A $450,000 low-income seniors housing project is still a go for Coe Hill, but work now isn’t expected to start now until late summer. Originally, Hasting County planned to have the four-apartment Ironwood Seniors residence complete by July 2011, but unexpected delays in needed official plan changes needed delayed the project, said Michelle Ogden, affordable housing program supervisor in the county’s social services department. COE HILL – Work looks pretty well done on a $20,000 “village square” in front of the Coe Hill post office. The space for sitting and talking is beside parking, which didn’t sit well with the townships revitalization committee. After council changed original plans to replace parking with pedestrian areas only, to a mix of the two, the committee voted against the changes. BANCROFT – The TROUT public transit is one year old and is celebrating the milestone with free rides in Bancroft Mon., May 30, 2011. The Rural Overland Utility Transit offers service north to Hastings , south, west, and east of Bancroft on weekdays, and is now running weekday trips to Peterborough. In May 2010, the TROUT was born out of the seniors-only Handi-Bus service. Now, it’s promoted as public transportation for everyone, says Sherry Hayes, transportation services manager at Community Care North Hastings. COE HILL – The muddy, wet spring has delayed opening of the new change room and washroom at the public beach on Wollaston Lake until middle June. The $108,000 concrete block building is essentially done and was hoped to be open for use by the Victoria Day Weekend, but the grounds around it are a mess after construction.
