OPP warn of paving scam in central Hastings area

( Tweed, On ) Central Hastings OPP are investigating three possible asphalt paving scams that occurred in the Village of Tweed last week. An out of town company are approaching local businesses with left over asphalt and offering low prices on paving parking lots. opp-logo

A verbal agreement is reached including the square footage and price. Once the work is complete a bill for a considerably larger amount is presented to the consumer. The suspects are very aggressive in both selling the product and collecting the money.

Suspects are operating a black Dodge pick up truck with a lift kit and a red dump truck with a company name on the side. The suspects will only identify themselves with first names. They provide what appears to be a legitimate contract but the phone number provided is not in service. They identify themselves as James, T.J and Andrew.

One of the males is describes as having an Australian accent, he is 6’2” tall, with a muscular build The work being performed is sub-standard. There are other on-going investigations with this same company within Eastern Ontario. Police are cautioning people to be aware of these tactics and to report any involvement with these suspects to police.

Police have information that this company will continue working in the Central Hastings area.
