Six people hurt in chain-reaction crash in Bancroft

SEVERAL PERSONS INJURED IN MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

opp-logoBANCFROFT — In the afternoon of Thursday the 24th of September 2009 Officers from the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision on Hastings Street North in the Town of Bancroft.

Investigation revealed that a Ford pickup truck, a Chevrolet van, a Toyota pickup truck and Kenworth tractor trailer were travelling northbound on Hastings Street North.

The Ford pickup stopped to let a southbound vehicle turn left into a private driveway. The Chevrolet van stopped behind the Ford pickup and the Toyota pickup stopped behind the Chevrolet van.

The Kenworth tractor trailer struck the Toyota pickup, pushing it into the Chevrolet van. The Chevrolet van was then pushed into the Ford pickup.

The driver of the Ford pickup, a 69 year old male and the passenger, a 64 year old female both of Cardiff, Ontario were transported to Quinte Healthcare North Hastings by ambulance with minor injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet van, a 61 year old male and the passenger, a 54 year old female both of Madawaska, Ontario were transported to Quinte Healthcare North Hastings by ambulance with minor injuries.

The driver of the Toyota pickup, a 67 year old male and the passenger a 62 year old female both of Bancroft, Ontario were transported to Quinte Healthcare North Hastings by ambulance with minor injuries.

The driver of the Kenworth tractor trailer, 61 year old Ralph Hughey of Highland Grove, Ontario did not sustain any injuries. Mr. Hughey had been charged with follow too closely, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
