OPP arrest driver after car stopped on Hwy 62


opp-logoTWEED – Oct. 6, 2009 police stopped a logging truck travelling southbound on Highway #37, south of Tweed, for Highway Traffic Act violations.

Further investigation resulted in the same male driver being stopped later in the day travelling northbound on Highway #62 in a car.

Michael ABRAMS, 53 years old, of Coe Hill was arrested and held for a bail hearing Oct. 7, 2009  in Belleville.

He faces charges of driving while disqualified, obstruct police, and breach of probation, under the Criminal Code of Canada; altering a validation permit, unlawfully displaying evidence of validation, unlawfully using a number plate, drive with no licence, and fail to change ownership, under the Highway Traffic Act; and operate a vehicle with no insurance, under the Compulsory Automobile insurance Act.


MARMORA – On Saturday evening, October 3rd, police received information of a dark green full size pickup truck driving erratically and squealing its tires in the village of Marmora.

The vehicle then travelled eastbound on Highway #7 at a high rate of speed and began to pass other eastbound vehicles.

During an attempt to overtake a small car, the pickup truck met an oncoming vehicle in the westbound lane. The suspect driver accelerated the truck in an attempt to complete the pass. He struck the rear of the car causing extensive damages. The car spun out of control.

The pickup accelerated and continued eastbound on Highway #7, passing another vehicle on the shoulder of the road on a curved portion.

The pickup was last seen eastbound on Highway #7 near Jarvis Road. The suspect vehicle suffered damage to the front passenger side as a result of the collision.
