Two men rescued after boat sinks near Lakefield

CAPSIZED VESSEL

SMITH-ENNISMORE-LAKEFIELD – On Saturday November 14, 2009 at approximately 9:30 P.M. Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Fire Department, Peterborough County Ambulance and police responded to the report of a capsized vessel on Lake Katchewanooka near Youngs Point Road.

Patrick BARIN age 51 years of Mississauga and Paul SCHEMBRI age 56 years of Brampton, had gone fishing on the lake at approximately 9:00 P.M. when their boat had filled with water and overturned.

The men were in the water for approximately 30 minutes before their calls for help were answered by Jeff HEROLD, another cottager, who rowed out and pulled the men from the water.

BARIN and SCHEMBRI were transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre and treated for hypothermia.

The boat was equipped with life jackets but neither man was wearing one.
