COE HILL — Work is well underway to create a new ‘”welcome centre” store at the Red Eagle Trailer Park on Wollaston Lake.
The 60-year-old store — with its leaky roof — was torn down last month. In its place a square log structure is taking shape, looking similar to other campground structures nearby.
Co-owner Karen Challinor says the new seasonal store will have high, cathedral ceilings, wheelchair access and a bigger games room, including a pool table and new video games.
The new store will have cathedral ceilings in a square log structure. It’s a “just a hair smaller” than the original store, Challinor said.
“Our goal is to make the new ‘Welcome Centre’ just that: more welcoming for anyone wanting to visit,” she said.
“The store will focus on having more ice cream and candy, ice, pop and chips, with just a few of the necessities such as bread, milk, eggs, etc. We’ll still serve coffee, tea & hot chocolate.”
Outside, a wrap-around deck and a porch will offer customers a place “to enjoy their ice cream, while sitting and enjoying a view of the lake,” Challinor said.
Roof trusses are expected to arrive this week, so the building can be enclosed next month. Interior finishing is planned over the winter, to be ready for opening in spring.
