Man found grenade in river north of Peterborough

WORLD WAR 2 ORDINANCE FOUND

SMITH-ENNISMORE-LAKEFIELD TWP – On Friday November 27, 2009 at approximately 4:26 P.M. police responded to the report of a found explosive device at a Sixth Line residence.

A World War 2 hand grenade had been found in the Otonabee River by the caller and taken to his home.

The explosive device had been left outside by the home owner. He was directed to refrain from handling it by police.

The Ontario Provincial Police Explosive Disposal Unit attended and disposed of the grenade.
