Bancroft wood chips converted into fuel and sugars

BANCROFT — SunOpta BioProcess Inc. (SBI) of Brampton is getting $5.5 million from the federal government to demonstrate that it can turn wood chips into fuel-grade ethanol and the sugar substitute xylitol, the Hamilton Spectator says.

Poplar chips from Bancroft are already used to make sugars that are fermented to produce ethanol in a plant in Waterdown, near Hamilton.
