BELLEVILLE – The Quinte Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving recently presented their Community Hero Award to Austin McNab, 21 years old, of Madoc.

Each year the Chapter presents this award to a member of the public who has gone above and beyond to get an impaired driver off the road.

Last year McNab observed impaired drivers on two occasions, once in July and again in December.

While travelling on Highway #62, Municipality of Centre Hastings, the vehicles were observed to be travelling at high speeds and weaving across the roadway, almost causing a collision with oncoming traffic.

Out of concern for public safety McNab informed police who were able to apprehend the drivers and charge them with impaired driving offences. In both instances the driver’s alcohol levels were three times over the legal limit.

Thank you to Austin McNab and the other members of the community who report impaired drivers. Keep our roads safe, and help to prevent tragedies – call the police if you see or suspect a driver is impaired.
