Police find explosives in abondoned jeep west of Apsley

GALWAY-CAVENDISH-HARVEY Twp – On Sunday May 9, 2010 at approximately 10:23 A.M. police located an abandoned vehicle near County Road 507 in Cavendish Twp.

The vehicle, a 1992 Jeep Cherokee, was parked on Fire Access Road #160 (aka Parnell’s Quarry Road) unlocked, without licence plates and with the keys in the ignition.

When officers checked the vehicle for documentation they discovered several blasting caps in the centre console and 7 ½ sticks of dynamite in a cardboard box on the floor of the passenger side.

Members of the Tactical Response Unit’s Emergency Disposal Team attended the scene and disposed of the explosives.

The investigation is continuing.
