Man dies after plunge into lake in Bon Echo park

BON ECHO  – Police used an underwater robot to recover the body of an Ottawa man who dove off rocks into Mazinaw Lake on Sat. June 26.

Witnesses say Chris Curry, 26, was on a ledge 50 feet above the water when he jumped in at 6:30 p.m., Kaladar OPP report. He hit several rocks on the way down to the 300 foot deep water.

Police say a group of friends were jumping into the water off of rocks.  Then Curry climbed higher and jumped as they watched.

Friends tried to find him in the water, without success, before  police, firefighters and paramedics arrived at the lake in Bon Echo Provincial Park, along Highway 41, north of Cloyne.

The provincial police dive unit found Curry’s body the morning of Mon., June 28.
